Thank you for helping to promote the Kanabec History Center, its' programs and fundraisers throughout the year. Here are the current happenings at the Center.

After Christmas Sale at the Kanabec History Center Museum Gift Shop

All Christmas merchandise, is marked down 25%, up to 75% OFF. We have quite a selection of ornaments, garlands, decorative bells all a reduced prices. The Gift Shop is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Stop in today at 805 West Forest Avenue in Mora. The Gift Shop also has a books, napkins, jewelry, baskets etc. and don't forget to visit the Antique & Collectible Nook while you are here. No admission charge for the History Center exhibits during continues through the end of January. All proceeds benefit the History Center exhibits and programs.

Basic Photo Editing with PhotoShop 
Sat. Jan. 12, 9 a.m. to Noon. 
at the Kanabec History Center

Learn to resize and crop your photos as well as make basic edits such as
touch ups, color adjustments and red eye and exposure correction. Class
also will cover simple embellishments such as working with text and
borders. Although we will be using Photoshop Elements, the concepts are
transferable to most other editing programs. **Bring your camera and
cables, a photo CD or a memory card and reader if you would like to work
on your own photos**

Must be at least 16 years old (12-15 okay if accompanied by an adult)
There will be some computers available to use, if you can bring your own you get a workshop fee discount.

Equipment to bring: -Photo CDs, camera and cables or memory card and reader -Laptop computer if you have one

The instructor, C.J. Gustafson, has been teaching photography and computer classes for
local colleges, businesses and community groups for over 10 years. In
addition to writing and photographing professionally, she owns Picturing
Pine Artwork & Gifts, a quaint shop located in Pine City that features her
images and the work of several other local artists.

Faux Finish Workshops 
at the Kanabec History Center
Five different one session workshops cover all aspects of decorative painting for homeowners and aspiring painters. Saturdays beginning Jan. 19 - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
All workshops taught by artist Eric Carlisle.
Call 320-679-1665 for Fee information. The fee includes All materials & printed hand outs! You will create sample boards to take home.
{Wear painting clothes and bring notebook, pencils and snacks for yourself.}

Wall Finishes 
Jan. 19th, 26th or Mar. 8
This workshop is a prerequisite for the other workshops. 
It consists of traditional and contemporary styles, learning glazing & mottled techniques, scale & color are all an important part of painted finishes.

Marble Finishes 
Feb. 16 or Mar. 15 
Learn traditional step by step method of how to duplicate the look of real marble as well as paint fantasy marble.

Texture Wall Surfaces 
Feb. 9 or Mar. 22 
With the wide range of textured surface products available today, it is important to learn the proper application techniques for the various products to achieve beautiful results. This workshops teaches traditional European plaster techniques & modern contemporary techniques.

Create Your Own Stencils 
Feb. 23 or Mar. 29 
Learn how to take your own design elements, from drawings, photos or magazines and recreate it into a perfect stencil. Workshop includes using stencils and overlays from a complex victorian wall covering pattern.

Specialty Finishes 
Mar. 1
These are exciting out of the ordinary finishes: metallics, leather & crackle finishes are a few of the many that will be taught, 3 per class on a rotating basis.

Basic Beading Jan. 26 or Feb. 2 and 
Wire Wrap Beading Jan. 26 or Feb. 2

Learn how to make beaded jewelry with Dee Kotaska at the Kanabec History Center. Her classes have been so popular we are offering two dates: Saturday January 26, and Saturday February 2, 2008. Each Saturday will have two classes:
Basic Beading from 10 to 11:30 a.m. In this class you will learn about basic beading tools, wire, beads and stringing techniques for jewelry making.
Wire Wrap Beading from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. here you will learn the decorative wire wrap technique to create unique jewelry. 

You must pre-register and pre-pay for these classes, there is a registration and materials fee for each class. You will make a pair of earrings and a bracelet in each of the classes. There is a discount if you would like to take both Basic Beading and Wire Wrap Beading. Anyone who has taken the class(es) previously can bring their own tools and come bead for a greatly reduced fee. Call 320-679-1665 for fee information and to register.
