MAD COW BAND
The band features two fiddlers, guitar, bass, and squeezebox with vocal harmonies, playing a diverse blend of music from Hungarian waltzes to Texas swing with Irish, bluegrass and country music thrown in for good measure. The Mad Cow Band has played at many events over the years in Mora area.


Thurs. July 17
EUNICE COLLETTE 
Singer/Songwriter and Mora native, Eunice (Gunderson) Collette, credits her love of music to her mother and her Danish grandmother whose gift of music was also a survival skill.  She is the seventh of eleven children born to Gordon and Mary Gunderson  (deceased) of Mora.  She began playing the guitar at age 12 and has written music throughout most of her adult life. Her soulful lyrics speak to the heart about awakening to life’s call, living authentically from the inside out and following your own “True North” (the title of her new CD). Her style ranges from lively folk tunes to plaintive inspirational melodies that can move you from laughter to tears.

BALL ROOM DANCE DEMO at 6:30 pm.
This dance exhibition is by the “Round Dancers” who meet Sunday evenings at the History Center in Fall & Winter mos. in the Coin School. Anyone is welcome come, watch and learn. Dances taught include the waltz, cha cha, bolero, jive, tango etc. We hope you enjoy the demonstration.

PAUL IMHOLTE

If it has strings, Paul Imholte probably plays it.   Known as the “musical stringman”  Paul brings nearly a dozen string instruments to a show.   His repertoire blends country hoedowns,  Celtic reels, classical transcriptions for folk instruments, and original music.  His artistry is based on a love for the beauty of acoustical music and his enthusiasm for sharing that passion with audiences. Paul has released seven CDs of instrumentals and original songs.  He has performed for audiences of all ages at concerts, festivals, and schools across the United States.

All concerts are held outdoors, the bands will play under the newly completed Sherman Lumber Bandstand located on the south side of the Coin School. Sherman Lumber and Pole Buildings of Mora donated the materials and labor to construct the roof last fall. Individual visitor donations paid for the cement pad. The concerts are all free (donations appreciated) and open to the entire community, free lemonade is also available at the concerts. Come bring your family, friends and lawn chairs to join us for good music and fun at the Kanabec History Center located at 805 West Forest Avenue in Mora. “This activity is made possible in part by funds from the East Central Regional Development Commission and the East Central Arts Council as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature. The Grandy Lions Club has also donated funds towards the concert series. Food Sales, donations and memberships also help to make the Concert Series possible.


New Session Just Added Aug. 18-22

Due to low registrations session 1: June 23 through 27 has been cancelled, BUT there is still room in session 2: July 21- 25 and we have just added a new session Aug. 18 - 22. Registration deadlines are two weeks prior to the beginning of each session. So get your registration in as soon as possible.
Old Tyme Country School classes are held in the historic Whittier School, on the Kanabec History Center grounds each summer. The classes are taught with materials from the early 1900’s, games at recess and other activities are all based on this time period. Each session consists of five consecutive days running from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 
Call 320-679-1665 for fee information. Classes are open to all students first through eighth grade. (Students must have completed first grade this school year, sorry no kindergarten.) We have several students each year that visit from other parts of the country, as well as our own Kanabec County students. Beading Group Meets The First Thursday of the 
Month at the Kanabec History Center 

A beading group lead by Maria DeMarco will meet the first Thursday evening of the month, 7 p.m. at the Kanabec History Center in the conference room. Come network with other beaders, work on your projects and learn from each other. This will be an on-going group so come and help Maria get this started!. Open to everyone (FREE), any age, any level, come have some fun and meet people with an interest in making beaded jewelry.

Mark Your Calendars!! Kanabec History Center Annual 
Garden Tour and Brunch, With Arts in the Gardens
is Set for July 12, 2008.

The annual Kanabec History Center Garden Tour and Brunch is set for Saturday July 12, 2008. The brunch is served from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Kanabec History Center. The gardens open at 10 a.m. for the self guided tour. Tour chair Franci Nelson has lined up six area gardens for this year's tour. This year we over a dozen artists participating in the Arts in the Gardens. Dee Kotaska who chairs the artists portion of the event has two to three artists in each garden with displays of their work for sale and demonstrations of various art techniques, styles and mediums. There will be silent auction items to bid on at the History Center and you can call in during the day to check on your bid. There will also be a clearance table of History Center Gift Shop items and some great buys in the Antique Nook. So join us for a full day of fun and bargains. Artist Mentoring Sessions to begin June 29th at the Kanabec History Center.


The Kanabec County Art Association is happy to announce the start of a new series of Artist Mentoring sessions led by Hinckley artist, Anthony LeTourneau. The three hour mentor sessions are open to area artists working in any type of media. This is a chance to get professional advice as well as peer group feedback about your art work; be it a work in progress or recently completed. Participants should bring at least one piece for critique, feel free to bring more. Everyone’s work will be given undivided attention by Mr. LeTourneau as well as the other artists in attendance. The first session will be held on Sunday, June 29th at the Kanabec History Center, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Anthony LeTourneau is an illustrator and portrait artist residing in Hinckley, MN. He has won numerous awards for his classical style oil paintings. He is highly regarded for his knowledgeable and encouraging attitude with area artists. Pre-registration is not necessary. For more information, call Becky Utecht at 320-679-4117.
