Dear Members,
In the past, there was a telephone calling tree in the area, whereby
you members would be alerted by one another if someone was in town
passing bad checks, shoplifting, and the like. We'd like to start
something like it up again, but in a bit more of a tech/savvy way.
This is how it would work: If a "critical event" was going on in the
area and the sheriff's department was alerted, everyone on the alert
list would be either text messaged or emailed (or both) to become aware
of the incident. These alerts would be screened so that you wouldn't be
unduly bothered - and they would be sent directly from the sheriff's
department.
What I'm finding out is- who of you would be interested in getting
involved in this? It would be easy to sign up and also easy to get
un-signed up if you decided it wasn't for you. We would send you a form
that you would fill out and fax to the sheriff's department and be
entered into the email database. On the form, you would give your cell
phone number and/or your email address.
Of course, your information would all be kept private. You would
only be alerted if/when there is an incident.
As Stefan says, "Santa's not the only one coming to town!" and we must
be on our toes.
Jeff Anderson at the sheriff's department is working on putting this
together for our chamber members. I think that it's a really good idea.
And it's free.
Please send me your thoughts.
Thank you.
Karen.
