*Eastwood will boost housing options for elders in Mora, which has a
significant need for independent and assisted living as well as memory
care, according to a recent study*. The need is expected to increase
over the next five years.
Housing Director Dianne Mattson spent most of her working life in
settings that serve older or vulnerable adults. Her last position, which
she held for 18 years, was at Brighter Day Residence in Mora. For the
past three years, Mattson has been helping her husband and sister-in-law
care for her aging mother-in-law. This experience has given Mattson
insight into the unique needs of elders.
*Eastwood Senior Living Community will offer 20 assisted living studio
apartment homes and 10 studio apartment homes for those with memory
loss. Eastwood will also feature an innovative life enrichment community
center that will link both assisted living and memory care housing*. The
center will offer programs, classes and private family dining.
The life enrichment center will be open to the community for
gatherings, events, community education and conferences. Janet Franz and
Sharon Vogt, co-directors of the Kanabec History Center are ?looking
forward to offering educational programs and exhibits at the Eastwood
Life Enrichment Center.?
Other possibilities include programs that offer intergenerational
opportunities to residents and families. ?I can imagine one of our
residents attending a Tai Chi class during the day, and seeing her
granddaughter perform in a play that evening,? says Rose Dunn, executive
director of the Mora HRA.
Apartments are wheelchair accessible and include kitchenettes,
spacious closets and private baths with grab bars and roll-in showers.
Assisted living services include personalized health care plans, meals,
utilities, a personal urgent-call system and transportation. A
registered nurse will also be available onsite to assist residents if
needed. For residents needing memory or cognitive care, Eastwood?s
trained staff provides care in a thoughtfully-designed environment where
each resident?s experience is valued.
Mattson?s caregiving experience has taught her that ?when you have
been taking care of your loved one many years, you want to know they
will be safe, secure and happy. That?s how I approach the families
looking at Eastwood. If this were my mom or dad what would I want for them??
