Dear Members.
As you know, our great Dala Horse is in great need of repair. It is our
City's icon and we should be proud of it, though it really is sad to see
it in the shape it's in - it should stand proudly.
Attached is a letter that the chamber recently received from the City of
Mora and we are looking to you for help. For those of you who missed
Alicia Wicklund's article in the Kanabec Times, it is below.
Whether you or someone you know, could provide materials, labor, or
financial help, anything would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Karen.

Repairs begin on Dala horse
by Alicia Wicklund
What was once the largest Dala Horse in the world, has moved to second
largest. However, what's even more saddening, is how the Dala Horse
appears.
Painting is profusely peeling from the Dala Horse and it is in desperate
need of repair.
"If we do nothing, the horse will eventually have to come down," said
City Administrator Joel Dhein.
It was said at the last city council meeting on Sept. 20 the reason the
Dala Horse was flaking was due to a paint problem and not a fiber glass
problem.
The recommendation was to soda blast it and paint it with a high quality
automotive paint.
According to Street Superintendent Gene Anderson soda blasting should
start the week of Sept. 26.
According to Dhein, the soda blasting could cost anywhere from $2,000 to
$4,000 but the total cost wouldn't be known until the soda blasting was
finished.
Painting and priming could cost up to $5,000.
The total cost of the project could be well over $10,000 if done
professionally. Therefore, finding volunteers or civic organizations was
suggested by the Mora city council to help defray the cost.
