We are all set, registration is paid.
Now we have to get some people interested!
I will put out a press release, but will you please share the
information with those who you know and work with? Down below is some
correspondence that I've had with Chuck Spavin, who is our connection to
this event - to help you understand what it's all about. Attached is the
registration form, which the chamber has filled out and sent in with
$60. The MN Sings organization has received it and Mora's spot is held.
The requirement is that the competitors must live, work or go to school
in Mora (55051) zip code. Ages 15 - 25. Some Ogilvie Students also go to
school in Mora - they can be included.
FYI - When asked if they sing A'Capella - this was Chuck's answer:
they sing to a backing track which has to be on a CD. They can buy a commercially produced backing track (cost anywhere from $.99 to $9.99) or they can make their own backing track. When they perform, it's just them on stage--no instruments. The backing track has to be on a CD, not on an ipod or ipad or computer. If they burn their CD from a computer, please have them make sure it will play in a CD player. Sometimes the CD's burned on a computer will not work on a regular CD player.
We will have our auditions at the Paradise Theatre and the finals at the
Kanabec County Fair - on the Fair's Saturday evening.
One winner (and a runner up who will take over in case the winner can
not) will go on to represent Mora in the Major competition on Sept. 27
in St. Paul.
We would love to get the word out before school ends for the year. We
need your help in finding singers who may wish to compete!
Please, let's get this rolling, let's get talking!
Thank you.
Karen.
Hi Karen:
Thank you so very much for taking the time to visit today. Last year was the first year of Minnesota Sings--and we had 47 cities compete. It's a real fun, easy, low cost event. I hope that Mora will be part of Minnesota Sings 2015! This event is exclusively marketed to Chamber of Commerces across Minnesota.
We wanted to give all the cities in Minnesota a quick update on Minnesota Sings. The Second Annual Minnesota Sings will take place on Sunday September 27, 2015 in St. Paul.
Minnesota Sings is a competition between cities throughout Minnesota and is designed for amateur vocalists ages 15 to 25. There are some great prizes thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. The first place winner receives $2500 cash, second place $1000 cash, and third place $500 cash. The next three winners will receive music gear such as microphones. In addition the first place winner gets two bonus checks. The first check for $1000 they get to bring back to their city and present to their favorite hometown charity. The second check for $500 they present to their local Chamber of Commerce. (If the Chamber is not involved, the check will go to the organization that worked on the local "Sings" event)
Because of space and time limitations, we will only be able to accomodate 60 cities this second year. (Next year we plan to expand to 100 cities) Thank you to the many cities that have already signed up for the event. The cost to be a part of the Second Annual Minnesota Sings is only $60.
Complete information on the event can be found at:www.minnesotasings.com
The show producer this year will again be Experience Shows. Please contact Kelly Casey at 612-202-0802 if you have any specific questions.
Please complete the Registration Form and return with a check to secure a spot in the competition as we sign up cities on a first come, first served basis.
Sincerely,
On behalf of all the volunteers,
Chuck Spavin
