A special message from the Kanabec County Master Gardeners and Kanabec
County 4H! Please read and share ~
*Fall for All Learning Event for Families*
Families are invited to an evening of fun learning on Thursday,
October 8, 5 – 8 pm, Zion Lutheran Church, Mora. This 3^rd annual
event is sponsored by University of Minnesota Extension, Kanabec
County Master Gardeners and Kanabec County 4-H.
Cost is $5/individual or $10/family, which includes a sandwich
supper, 2 speakers and kid’s activities.
Interested in learning more about establishing micro-climates in
your backyard and extending your growing season? We are pleased to
be hosting the leading expert in Minnesota on natural and man-made
micro-climates for gardening. Terry Nennich is a Retired University
of Minnesota Extension Professor from Thief River Falls. He will
discuss ways to utilize natural micro-climates in the yard and how
to create man-made versions for vegetables, fruits, flowers and
shrubs. He will talk about raised beds, row covers, ways to extend
the growing season and more.
Cameron Feaster, Wolf Specialist from the International Wolf Center
in Ely, MN will offer a presentation on Timber Wolf Biology and
Ecology in Minnesota. He will discuss current management practices,
status of the Minnesota wolf population, current rules and
practices, wolf history. The focus of this presentation is on
learning about the wolf and how this animal fits into Minnesota
agriculture and our culture.
For Kids, we have fun with wildlife skulls, pelts and tracks
(offered by Kanabec County 4-H; fulfills a wildlife hour for 4-H
Shooting Sports members) and Fun with Food—make a nutritious snack
with fresh fall foods. Older youth have the option of listening to
the speakers and participating in the discussions.
Door prizes, a great Minnesota fall supper, time to explore the
wildlife pelts and more will be offered.
Zion Lutheran Church is located at 401 Highway 65, just south of the
hospital.
