Focus -Celebrating Women

*Honk if you support Women Vets!*

Starting January 1st, Minnesota's nearly 30,000 women veterans can get
their own license plates, which will say, "Woman Veteran".

The Legislature approved the place - designed by veteran Angie Batica -
last year, after years of advocacy by women veterans. The plates will
cost an additional $10, the same as other veterans plates.

*Meet No. 100,
a milestone*

Alma Adams, D - N.C., became the 100th woman - the most in history - in
the 113th Congress when she was sworn in after winning a special
election in November to replace outgoing Rep. Mel Watt.

She joined 20 women in the Senate and 79 others in the House.

*Our Mission*
/Women working together to
promote personal empowerment, professional development and political
awareness for women./

Melonie will have copies of her book for sale at our meeting.

Melonie started out as many writers do, writing for themselves and
friends in journals and letters. With each career move, came more
business writing, culminating as a Marketing Coordinator for an Allstate
Life subsidiary. Further enhancing her professional learning and
experience have been personal experiences with wild nature from the grey
whales of Baja, Mexico to dog sledding vacations to numerous learning
and volunteer programs with the International Wolf Center. As an avid
life-long learner, her “Artist Way” dates are always full.

*Dala Business Women
Meeting Minutes - December 8th, 2014*

The meeting called to order by meeting facilitator Sharon Prahl.
Motion made by LML that the November Meeting Minutes be approved as
submitted. Seconded by Sharon Prahl. Motion carried.
Pam Mattson will send a check to the Treasurer of MN Business Women for
Evette Wissler and Beatta Hillman’s membership dues.
Sharon handed out a copy of the November 13, 2014 MBW Board of
Director’s conference call minutes. Highlights included:

  * Mentioned that Mankato BPW made $2,000 to $3,000 on the Cheese
    ball project.
  * State event is April 24 & 25th – Friday night social with wine
tasting. Chris Heeter will be the Keynote speaker on Saturday.
  * Sharon sent the state officers a picture of the banner we used for
    our local organization
  * The next MN Business Women’s conference call will be December 11th.

*NEW BUSINESS:*
Pam Mattson has contacted the owner of Scout & Morgan, privately owned
bookstore in Cambridge to be the program for January.
Pam suggested we bring in books we are willing to part with; we could
sell for 25 to 50 cents each to members and put the money in the
operating funds account.
March meeting is *Girlfriend’s Evening Ou*t. Deb Lawrence is not sure if
she will be in town for the event, she will let Pam Mattson know.
Pam Mattson thought we had only enough money for one scholarship this
year, and wondered if we should use Girl’s Night Out as a scholarship
fundraiser instead of funding a non-profit.
In the past we had given money to The Refuge; that organization is now a
part of Family Pathways; they are in a better place financially than
they were last year.
The issue is tabled until January when we have more information.
*Audit report* will be until January.
The Mora Area Chamber of Commerce contacted us about renting a *booth
for the Chamber Exp*o. The decision was tabled until January.
Suggestions included having a raffle for scholarship. Evette Wissler
said she would donate a piece of jewelry, Linda Laitala said she would
donate some leather pad folios.
Next, the question was asked about raffle laws and would we have to be
licensed or is the Expo covered by the Chamber. Pam said Karen Amundson
might know if it’s possible to have a scholarship raffle at the event.
*Coborn’s Brat Stand* conversation tabled until January.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Linda Laitala
Acting Secretary
