> Property Tax hearing in your community
>
> Starting Monday, February 15, members of the Minnesota House of Representatives will be holding hearings on the topic of property taxes. They will be in or near your community, and it is critical that they hear from business leaders about the need to provide business property tax relief. Minnesota businesses have among the highest property tax burdens in the country. With a budget surplus exceeding $1.2 billion, we are asking legislators to provide some property tax relief to businesses. Specifically, we are asking them to focus on the statewide property tax.
>
> The statewide property tax is an extra tax paid by just businesses (95%) and cabins (5%). It goes up automatically each year, now over $850 million annually, and it goes to the state general fund. It does not go to local governments. This tax accounts for almost one-third of your business property tax bill. Please attend the meeting, and/or contact your legislator. Ask them to eliminate the automatic inflator and reduce the statewide property tax this session.
>
> The schedule of meetings is attached, along with background information. Please contact Jennifer Byers at jbyers at mnchamber.com or 651-292-4673 with any questions or feedback. Thank you for your assistance.
